HP LaserJet Pro MFP 3103fdn Printer (3G631A) – Wired Mono Laser Print, Copy, Scan & Fax with Auto Duplex
The HP LaserJet Pro MFP 3103fdn is a compact mono laser multifunction printer built for small business workteams of up to 7 users who need reliable, wired document handling across print, copy, scan, and fax from a single device. It delivers automatic duplex printing as standard, a 50-sheet ADF for unattended multi-page jobs, and Fast Ethernet connectivity — all within the same compact footprint as the wireless 3103fdw, but without the Wi-Fi overhead. Additionally, HP Wolf Pro Security arrives preconfigured from first power-on, reducing setup requirements for small offices that manage their own IT.

Use Cases
Shared Wired Network Printing for Small Workteams
Teams of up to 7 users share the 3103fdn over a wired Fast Ethernet connection without additional networking hardware. The 802.1x authentication support allows IT administrators to control print access at the network level. Furthermore, the password-protected embedded web server enables remote configuration and monitoring without requiring a dedicated management workstation.
Daily Document Scanning and Distribution
The 50-sheet ADF handles multi-page originals at up to 19 ppm (b&w, A4) for unattended batch scanning. Scanned output saves as PDF, PDF/A, JPG, TIFF, or XPS. Additionally, scan-to-email and scan-to-folder destinations are configurable via the HP Smart app, enabling direct file distribution without routing through a dedicated scanning PC.
Automatic Duplex Printing for Paper Reduction
Default automatic duplex output halves paper consumption on two-sided jobs — internal reports, policy documents, contracts, and multi-page correspondence all benefit without any manual page-flipping. The booklet printing option in the driver further streamlines longer documents that would otherwise require manual collation.
Fax-Dependent Business and Compliance Workflows
Legal, financial, and administrative offices maintaining physical fax lines benefit from the 3103fdn’s 33.6 kbps fax modem, 500-page fax memory, and up to 200 speed-dial entries. Fax transmission at standard resolution runs as fast as 3 seconds per page, consequently keeping high-frequency fax workflows moving at pace.
Secure PIN Print Release
Sensitive documents — HR correspondence, financial records, legal filings — can be held in the print queue and released only when the authorised user authenticates at the 2.7″ touchscreen panel using a PIN. This consequently prevents unattended printouts from sitting exposed in a shared output tray.
Considerations
No Wireless Connectivity
The 3103fdn connects via Ethernet and USB only. Consequently, offices without a wired LAN drop near the printer will need to run a network cable or connect a host PC directly via USB. There is no Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, or Bluetooth option on this model. Teams requiring wireless printing should instead review the HP LaserJet Pro MFP 3103fdw Printer (3G632A), which adds dual-band 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Wireless Direct Printing to an otherwise identical specification.
No Automatic Duplex ADF Scanning
Like its wireless sibling, the 3103fdn does not support duplex ADF scanning. Scanning double-sided originals therefore requires manually turning the document stack and running a second scan pass. Offices that regularly digitise high volumes of two-sided documents — double-sided contracts, ID documents, pre-printed forms — should assess this limitation against their workflow before purchase. However, single-page two-sided originals can be managed individually on the flatbed.
Single Paper Tray — No Optional Input Expansion
The 3103fdn has one 250-sheet input tray with no optional high-capacity tray available. Therefore, teams with sustained daily print volumes exceeding 250 sheets per uninterrupted run will experience more frequent tray refill interruptions than on models with dual-tray configurations. Buyers needing greater paper capacity should consider the HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4103fdn Printer (2Z628A), which offers a 350-sheet combined standard input and an optional 550-sheet third tray.
Introductory Toner Ships at Reduced Yield
The HP 145A toner cartridge included in the box is an introductory version rated at approximately 1,000 pages — well below the 1,700-page standard replacement (W1450A). Teams with immediate high-volume output needs should consequently budget for a full standard or high-yield replacement cartridge (HP 145X, ~3,800 pages) at the point of purchase, rather than relying on the in-box supply for initial production volumes.
Dynamic Security and Cartridge Restrictions
The 3103fdn uses HP’s dynamic security system, restricting operation to cartridges carrying genuine HP chips. Third-party or remanufactured cartridges using non-HP chips may be blocked, including after future firmware updates. Procurement planning should therefore account for ongoing HP 145A and HP 145X cartridge costs specifically.
